In The Penguin Episode 2, titled “Inside Man,” Gotham’s crime world intensifies as Colin Farrell’s Oswald “Oz” Cobb navigates deadly alliances and power struggles. Following the events of the premiere, this episode digs deeper into the mounting tension between the Falcone and Maroni crime families, with Oz planting seeds of chaos while evading suspicion. The stakes are higher, alliances are shifting, and Oz is playing both sides with deadly precision.

The Aftermath of Alberto Falcone’s Death

The episode opens with Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti) struggling to cope with the recent loss of her brother, Alberto, as she navigates her suspicions about his murder. Her belief that there’s a traitor within the family adds to her grief, fueling her desperation to maintain control over the Falcone empire. In a chilling dream sequence, she imagines reuniting with her brother in Arkham Asylum, only to witness his death all over again. This scene highlights the fragile mental state Sofia is in as she tries to make sense of the chaos around her.

Meanwhile, Oz is busy manipulating the Maroni family, led by Salvatore Maroni (Clancy Brown). He strikes a deal, offering them insider information on a valuable shipment controlled by the Falcones. Though Oz promises the Maronis an easy victory, a twist forces him into a dangerous situation. His plan to ride behind the truck carrying the goods backfires when he’s forced to sit inside the target vehicle. Despite being caught in the crossfire of a Maroni attack, Oz skillfully escapes, continuing his web of deceit.

Sofia Suspects a Rat

Back at the Falcone estate, Sofia confronts Oz and underboss Johnny Viti, suspecting that someone within the family is leaking information to the Maronis. Luca Falcone, the new head of the family, dismisses her fears, believing her grief is clouding her judgment. However, Oz uses the opportunity to slyly offer his assistance in “catching the rat,” further ingratiating himself with Sofia.

The episode’s tension builds as Oz maneuvers through multiple layers of deception. After secretly manipulating both families, he sets his sights on pinning the blame for the betrayal on Viti. In a brutal final scene, Oz frames Viti’s loyal bodyguard, resulting in his execution and leaving Sofia even more determined to consolidate power.

Episode 2 of The Penguin shines as a gripping character study of Gotham’s criminals, with Oz at the center of it all. As he continues to outsmart those around him, the stakes for both the Falcones and Maronis rise.
