“The Paper” Trailer Brings Office Magic Back—Pretzel Day Included
Peacock has dropped the first official trailer for The Paper, the long-awaited spin-off of The Office. Fans of the mockumentary classic will recognize the tone immediately—dry humor, impromptu interviews, and quirky workplace banter framed by that familiar documentary crew. Set in Toledo, Ohio, the spotlight now shifts from paper sales to local journalism at The Toledo Truth Teller.
Meet the Characters—and Oscar
Domhnall Gleeson stars as Ned Sampson, the earnest new editor-in-chief determined to breathe new life into a dying newspaper. Sabrina Impacciatore plays the no-nonsense former managing editor, Esmerelda Grand, who’s not thrilled about change. And in the trailer’s best wink to the past, Oscar Nuñez reprises his role as Oscar Martinez—now working in accounting at the paper. He sees the cameras and deadpans, “Not again,” before threatening to make his footage unusable.
The Same Crew, New Chaos
True to form, the original documentary crew from The Office returns to chronicle the newsroom’s dysfunction. Expect plenty of bizarre “clickbait” headlines, awkward staff meetings, and dry one-liners as new recruits (many of whom barely know how to write for a paper) clash with nostalgic format.
Creators, Production & Premiere Details
Behind the scenes, The Paper is helmed by The Office creator Greg Daniels and writer-producer Michael Koman, with executive producers including Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. The new series debuts September 4, 2025, on Peacock with four episodes, then will roll out two new episodes each Thursday through September 25.
