Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, has introduced a new feature that allows users to send disappearing voice messages in the messaging app. Similar to the “View Once” option for photos and videos introduced in 2021, this feature adds an extra layer of privacy to voice messages. The disappearing voice messages can only be listened to once, making them suitable for situations where users want information to be heard only once and not retained digitally.

The feature includes a “one-time” icon to indicate that the voice message is designed to disappear after a single listen. This could be particularly useful for situations like planning surprises or sharing sensitive information that should not be stored. The messages are protected with end-to-end encryption by default, ensuring that the content remains secure during transmission.

Meta continues to enhance privacy and security features across its messaging platforms, aligning with the company’s commitment to providing a safe and private user experience. The introduction of disappearing voice messages follows the recent rollout of end-to-end encryption in Messenger, reflecting Meta’s ongoing efforts to address user concerns about data protection and digital privacy. The feature is set to roll out globally over the next several days.
