Sony is avoiding the 2024 Gamescom

PS4 gamers expecting a rush of announcements at Gamescom 2024 will be disappointed. There will be no exhibits at the next video game convention in Germany, according to confirmation from Sony Interactive Entertainment. After revealing their release schedule for the remainder of 2024 during their most recent State of Play address, the company made this decision.

*State of Play Unveils Upcoming Games

The State of Play presentation served as a platform for Sony to showcase a variety of exciting titles. Horror fans received a treat with a new, terrifying trailer for the highly anticipated remake of Silent Hill 2. The chilling glimpse into the game confirmed its release date of October 28, 2024.

*PC Gamers Rejoice

Great news for PC gamers! The critically acclaimed God of War: Ragnarok, along with its “Valhalla” DLC, is set to launch on PC on September 19th. This port promises to deliver a visually stunning experience with support for higher frame rates, cutting-edge technologies like DLSS 3.7 and AMD FSR, and compatibility with super ultra-wide monitors.

*Virtual Reality Thrills

The presentation also highlighted upcoming titles for PlayStation VR2, Sony’s next-generation virtual reality headset. Alien Rogue Incursion, a thrilling VR experience, is slated for a Holiday 2024 release, allowing players to face off against the iconic Xenomorph threat.

*Expanding Horizons

Beyond the immediate future, Sony announced plans to expand the reach of some existing titles. The popular horror game Until Dawn will be making its way to both PS5 and PC, with a release scheduled for sometime in the fall of 2024. This move broadens the audience for the game, allowing PC gamers to experience its unique blend of horror and storytelling.

*A Glimpse into 2025

While the focus was on 2024 releases, Sony also offered a peek into what’s to come in 2025. Games like Sky dance’s Behemoth (PSVR2), Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds, Tips Works and Infold Games’ Ballad of Antara, and Omega Force’s Dynasty Warriors Origins were all confirmed for release next year, further solidifying Sony’s commitment to delivering a diverse range of experiences for PlayStation fans.

*Astro Bot Makes a Grand Return

The beloved platformer Astro Bot is making a triumphant return with a brand new “super-sized” adventure. Scheduled for launch on September 6, 2024, for PS5, this new Astro Bot title promises to take players on a journey through over 80 unique worlds, filled with exciting challenges and delightful platforming action.

*Strategic Focus on Existing Releases

Sony’s decision to skip Gamescom 2024 reflects a strategic approach. With a packed release schedule for the remainder of the year and a focus on generating excitement for their existing slate of games, the company has opted to prioritize ongoing marketing efforts rather than attending Gamescom. This move highlights Sony’s commitment to supporting their upcoming titles and ensuring a successful launch for each one.

*A Different Landscape at Gamescom

With both Sony and Nintendo opting out of Gamescom 2024, the event will see a significant shift in the landscape. Microsoft will likely take center stage, leveraging the opportunity to connect with European audiences and showcase their upcoming titles for Xbox Series X/S and PC. This change in dynamics could lead to a more Xbox-centric Gamescom, with Microsoft having the platform to make a major impact on European gamers.
