In the upcoming Liga MX Clausura match, Leon will host Club America at the Estadio León on Saturday.
Leon has experienced a sluggish start to their league campaign, managing just one victory in five games so far. Following a 4-1 defeat to Toluca last week, they suffered another loss, this time 3-2 against Pachuca on Wednesday. Compounding their challenges, Gonzalo Nápoli received a red card in the 79th minute of the latter match and will be suspended for the upcoming fixture.
On the other hand, Club America has enjoyed an undefeated streak in the league, securing back-to-back wins in their initial three games of the season before settling for draws in their last two matches. In their recent encounter, they were held to a 1-1 draw by Monterrey, with Diego Valdés and Sergio Canales scoring for their respective teams.
However, Club America faced their first defeat of the year on Tuesday in the CONCACAF Champions League first round against Real Esteli. Despite Julián Quiñones finding the net in the dying minutes, they succumbed to a 2-1 loss.
In their head-to-head history since 1996, Club America holds the advantage with 19 wins compared to Leon’s 15, while 12 matches ended in draws. Notably, Club America emerged victorious in their most recent meeting during the Apertura quarterfinals last November.
Leon has struggled against Club America in recent encounters, failing to secure a win in their last four meetings and conceding at least two goals in each. However, they have demonstrated solid goal-scoring capabilities, finding the net at least twice in three of their five games this season.
At home, Leon has shown resilience against Club America, remaining undefeated in their last five encounters and clinching two 3-2 victories. With Gonzalo Nápoli suspended, veteran midfielder Andrés Guardado is expected to play a crucial role for Leon.
On the defensive front, Club America boasts the best record in the league this season, conceding just once in five games, while Leon has struggled defensively, conceding a total of 13 goals. Despite their impressive defensive record, Club America has experienced a slight dip in form lately, drawing two of their last three matches and suffering their first loss of the season midweek.
