Novak Djokovic defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas from Greece on Sunday, 6-3, 7-6(7-4), 7-6(7-5) in the final of Australian Open at Rod Laver Arena and tied Rafael Nadal for the most number of slam victories ever.

The trophy marks the Serb’s tenth one at the Melbourne Park, most by any player in the open era. His record in the Australian Open finals stands at 10-0.

Tsitsipas stood no chance in the one-sided clash as he couldn’t even take a set from the former world number one. The final resembled the players’ last meeting, which the Serb won in straight sets too at the 2022 ATP Finals.

The winner is to receive the prestigious trophy alongside 2.9 million AUD and 2000 ranking points. With this, Novak Djokovic becomes the first player in history to kiss the coveted title a whopping 10 times.

The first set was an easy one for the Serb whereas the second one went to tie break which he eventually won 7-4. In the third one, Novak was 6-5 up but Tsitsipas fired a couple of aces to take the set to a tie break. In the tie break the 9-time champion was unstoppable as he went to a straight 4-0 lead, the Greek won a couple of points making it 2-5 but couldn’t stop Djokovic from getting on to the match point as the score became 6-3. Stefanos gave his all to save two match points but the former champion converted the last to bag his tenth final win in Australia.

Novak Djokovic is now just a win away from becoming the player with highest number of slam victories.
