Rising Star Lost: Ole Miss Freshman Corey Adams Fatally Shot

Shortly after 10 p.m. on July 19, 2025, Shelby County deputies in Cordova—just outside Memphis—found 18-year-old Corey Adams with a gunshot wound in a vehicle at a residential intersection. Emergency responders performed CPR before Shelby County Fire personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. Four other men also suffered gunshot wounds but are listed in non-critical condition. Authorities are treating the incident as a homicide and continue to search for suspects.

A Community Devastated

A native of New Orleans, Adams was not just a promising defensive lineman; he had twice earned All-State honors at Edna Karr High School. He joined the University of Mississippi as an early enrollee this winter, preparing for his freshman season under coach Lane Kiffin.
Ole Miss Football expressed profound sorrow, stating they were "devastated" and asking the community to respect the family's privacy. His former high school team remembered him as “a friend, brother, son, student, and all‑around great young man,” adding, “Words can’t describe this type of pain”.

Dreams Cut Short

Adams—a 6 ft 4, 250‑lb defensive end—enrolled early to acclimate himself during spring workouts. He was widely regarded as a top national prospect from Louisiana and seen as a rising talent for the Rebels. His death shocked not just the Ole Miss football family, but the broader New Orleans community where he was hailed for both his athleticism and character.

Investigation Continues

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that four others were shot in the same incident and are recovering; none are in critical condition. At this time, no suspects have been named, and the investigation remains active. Police believe the tragedy sprang from unknown circumstances outside a home on Fern Glade Cove
