In a tragic turn of events, two men have been charged with murder and other felony charges in connection with the mass shooting that occurred after a Kansas City Chiefs championship rally last week. Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced the charges on Tuesday, shedding light on the grim aftermath of the incident.

Lyndell Mays, hailing from Raytown, and Dominic M. Miller, a resident of Kansas City, now face second-degree murder charges, along with unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action. Both individuals are being held on a staggering $1 million bond as the legal proceedings unfold.

According to the investigation conducted by authorities, the altercation that led to the shooting began with a verbal argument involving Mays and another individual. The situation quickly escalated when Mays brandished a handgun, prompting Miller and others to draw their firearms, resulting in a harrowing shootout. Prosecutor Baker revealed that the two defendants were previously unknown to each other before the fateful day of the shooting.

While both Mays and Miller have been hospitalized and in custody since the incident, it was Miller’s firearm that ultimately claimed the life of Lisa Lopez-Galvan. A beloved 43-year-old mother of two, Lopez-Galvan was also a local DJ and radio host, adding to the profound tragedy of her untimely passing.

These recent charges are distinct from the cases involving two teenagers who are currently facing gun-related and resisting arrest charges. The teenagers are being held in secure detention at the Juvenile Detention Center, and further arrests in connection with the shooting are not ruled out, according to Prosecutor Baker.

The charges come on the heels of a devastating shooting that left Lopez-Galvan dead and more than 20 others injured, including nearly a dozen children. The chaotic scene unfolded outside Union Station, shattering the jubilant atmosphere of what should have been a joyous celebration for the Super Bowl champions.

As the legal process moves forward, the community grapples with the aftermath of this senseless act of violence, mourning the loss of a beloved member and seeking justice for all those affected by the tragic events.
