Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 Specs Leak Everything You Need to Know

Recently, some really high-end phones with top-notch features and specs have been produced by Xiaomi, the epitome of value for money. In addition to one of the lightest and thinnest sideways-folding phones, the business unveiled two new flagship models today. The first flip phone from Xiaomi, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, is joining the new Mix Fold 4. It offers a number of advantages over other clamshell phones. Wrapping around the two cameras on the cover, the Xiaomi Mix Flip has an external display that takes up the majority of the space. Curved edges on all four sides facilitate better handling, and this allows the display to be as large as 4 inches.

You may run over 200 apps in full 16:9 orientation straight from the outer screen’s square layout, boosting usage. It has a resolution of 1392 x 1208 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. Conversely, the 6.86-inch internal panel boasts a dynamic refresh rate of 120Hz, a resolution of 2912 x 1224 pixels, and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. One of the primary selling features of Xiaomi’s flip phone is its cameras. Similar to its more spacious sister, the Mix Fold 4, the Mix Flip also features cameras that have been optimized by Leica, a maker of photographic gear. It utilizes the same 50-megapixel camera with a Leica Summilux lens atop a single

Helping the main unit is a 50MP 2x telephoto camera that improves portraits to a level comparable to a professional photographer’s using an in-house machine learning model. Together with the Mix Flip, Xiaomi is going to sell a “Photography Kit” that allows users to take and print pictures right away. Other high-end flip phones, such the Galaxy Z Flip 6, are ashamed of these capabilities. But more significantly, Xiaomi sets an example for other manufacturers by establishing parity between the cameras on its Fold and Flip phones. Along with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, the Flip also has the newest flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip.

In addition to class-leading performance, the chip enables top-grade connectivity features such as Wi-Fi 7, while Xiaomi claims support for 5G Advanced, the upcoming generation of cellular technology. The Mix Flip packs a 4,780mAh battery, which is split into two cells for better heat management. The phone also supports 67-watt fast wired charging but lacks wireless charging. The Xiaomi Mix Flip comes in three color options, including plain white, black, and purple. There’s another special-edition purple called Nylon Fiber edition with a woven lattice. The Mix Flip has a starting price of just 5,999 yuan or $825 for the 12GB/256GB variant, while the higher end with 16GB RAM and 1TB of storage will be available for 7,299 yuan or roughly $1,005. Like its bigger sibling, the Xiaomi Mix Flip is likely to be limited to China initially. However, older leaks suggest that Xiaomi also has a global model in the works, suggesting it could launch in other markets over the coming months.

Xiaomi’s entry into the foldable phone market marks a significant milestone in the company’s evolution from a budget-friendly brand to a competitor in the premium smartphone segment. The Mix Flip’s design, with its expansive outer display and high-resolution inner screen, offers users a versatile and visually impressive device. The curved edges on all four sides of the outer display enhance handling, making it a user-friendly option despite its advanced features. The inclusion of cameras tuned by Leica is a notable feature, providing users with professional-grade photography capabilities. The 50-megapixel main camera and 50MP 2x telephoto camera are supported by a machine learning model, ensuring that portraits and other photos are of high quality. The Photography Kit, which allows for instant shooting and printing, adds another layer of convenience and functionality, making the Mix Flip an attractive option for photography enthusiasts.

Performance-wise, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip ensures that the Mix Flip is not only fast and responsive but also future-proof with support for the latest connectivity standards like Wi-Fi 7 and 5G Advanced. The ample RAM and storage options further enhance the phone’s appeal, catering to users who demand high performance and extensive storage for apps, media, and files. Battery life is another area where the Mix Flip excels, thanks to its 4,780mAh battery. The split-cell design helps manage heat more effectively, ensuring that the phone remains cool during extended use. The 67-watt fast wired charging provides quick power top-ups, although the absence of wireless charging might be a drawback for some users who prefer the convenience of wireless solutions.

The Mix Flip’s aesthetic appeal is complemented by its range of color options. The plain white, black, and purple choices provide variety, while the special-edition Nylon Fiber purple offers a unique look with its woven lattice design. These options allow users to choose a device that fits their personal style. Pricing for the Mix Flip is competitive, especially considering its high-end features and specifications. The starting price of 5,999 yuan ($825) for the 12GB/256GB variant offers good value for money, while the higher-end model with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage at 7,299 yuan ($1,005) provides ample options for users with greater performance and storage needs. This pricing strategy positions Xiaomi as a strong contender in the foldable phone market, offering premium features at a more accessible price point compared to some competitors.

Initially, the Mix Flip will be available only in China, but there are indications that a global model is in development. This potential expansion into other markets could help Xiaomi gain a broader customer base and establish a stronger presence in the global smartphone market. If the global launch materializes, it will be interesting to see how the Mix Flip competes with other premium foldable phones worldwide. Xiaomi’s foray into the foldable phone market with the Mix Flip and Mix Fold 4 represents a significant step forward for the company. By combining advanced features, high-quality cameras, and competitive pricing, Xiaomi is poised to challenge established players in the premium smartphone segment.

The Mix Flip, in particular, stands out for its innovative design, professional-grade cameras, and robust performance, making it a compelling choice for users looking for a high-end foldable phone. As Xiaomi continues to innovate and expand its product lineup, it will be fascinating to see how it shapes the future of the smartphone industry. Xiaomi’s approach to balancing high-end specs with value for money can redefine expectations in the foldable phone market, making advanced technology more accessible to a broader audience. The Mix Flip and Mix Fold 4 could serve as catalysts for broader adoption of foldable devices, potentially driving further innovation and competition in this rapidly evolving sector.

The foldable phone category is overspilling with options beyond Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold and Flip devices. The newest entries are two foldables from Xiaomi, including the book-style Xiaomi Mix Fold 4, which raises the bar for foldables across the board. The Mix Fold 4 is Xiaomi’s fourth foldable and also the thinnest and lightest one to date. It measures 4.59mm in thickness when unfolded and 9.47mm rolled back. Xiaomi says the hinge has been shrunk significantly without compromising its strength, while the internals are reinforced with carbon fiber plates to make the overall build lighter than previous generations. The curved edges on the screen and the back make the phone much more ergonomic and easier to hold. The company also uses 3D stacking to utilize space more effectively. With these optimizations combined, the Mix Fold 4 weighs only 226 grams (7.97 ounces), which is not only lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, but also the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

For displays, the Mix Fold 4 uses a 7.98-inch flexible inner panel from Samsung with a 2488 x 2244 resolution and a dynamic refresh rate that switches between 1Hz and 120Hz. The outer screen measures 6.56 inches and has a resolution of 2520 x 1080. It also refreshes at up to 120Hz with similar dynamic refresh rate switching like the larger inner screen. Both displays support Dolby Vision and HDR10+ for enjoyable content viewing. Besides its thin and light profile, a significant highlight of the Xiaomi foldable is its exquisite set of cameras.

The Mix Fold 4 utilizes specialty lenses and color adjustments to produce better images, thanks to the company’s partnership with Leica, a manufacturer of camera equipment. The primary 50-megapixel camera in the quad camera setup has a Leica Summilux lens mounted on top of a bespoke Light Fusion 800 sensor. It is accompanied with a 50MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, which is mostly used for portraiture, and a 12MP ultrawide camera. For closer-up shots at a greater distance, there is a 5X periscope telephoto lens at the end. We haven’t seen an optical zoom on a foldable device quite like that one.

A machine learning algorithm built on real images captured by expert photographers is another way Xiaomi improves portraits. The model faithfully captures the landscape, rendering an appearance that is “a little more ideal than reality.” The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip that powers the Mix Fold 4 is located inside. Xiaomi provides up to 1TB of storage and up to 16GB of RAM in addition to the flagship CPU.

Relying on a robust 5,100mAh battery, the hardware facilitates both 50W and 67W rapid wired charging. Probably one of the most potent and stylish foldables released this year, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 boasts capabilities that surpass those of other well-known models, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The Fold 4 will, regrettably, only be available in China, just like the Xiaomi Mix Fold’s first three iterations. 8,999 yuan, or around $1,240, is where it starts. In China, the highest model with 1TB of storage will cost 10,999 yuan, or roughly $1,515, in the country. In addition to a special edition in black composite fiber, the phone is available in blue and white color choices.
