Star Trek: Discovery referred to a bit of innovation that was first made by Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as a running joke. Star Trek: Discovery season 3, scene 6. Book has been kidnapped by individuals from the Emerald Chain. A hazardous Andorian/Orion partner, and is being compelled to fill in as a scrounger on a planet called Hunhau. Scouring wrecked Starfleet ships for significant innovation. Defying an immediate request from Captain Saru. Michael enrolls Georgiou’s assistance to takes Book’s boat to Hunhau and protect him from the Emerald Chain.

The two show up and are welcomed with aggression by Tolor, the nephew of the Emerald Chain’s chief, Osyraa. Acting like shippers, they offer to exchange dilithium for a portion of the tech Tolor has rescued. With an end goal to keep their cover, Michael makes reference to a few bits of tech they need. Including self-fixing stem jolts – a name which may have made Star Trek fans’ ears liven up.

What happened in Season 1?

Self-fixing stem jolts were first presented in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, during the season 1 scene “Progress”. In which Jake Sisko and Nog procure a huge shipment of them with an end goal to make money. Other than being a sort of jolt. The down to earth application for a self-fixing stem jolt is left generally hazy.

For the most part in light of the fact that the stem jolts are utilized in “Progress”. Even in ensuing scenes of Deep Space Nine as something of a running joke. Other than the interesting name. The joke generally comes from the way that when self-fixing stem jolts are first presented. Nobody appears to understand what they do or have any utilization for them.
