In their first game under Javier Aguirre’s third tenure as head coach, Mexico is set to face New Zealand in a friendly match in Pasadena, California. Aguirre, who previously led Mexico from 2001-2002 and 2009-2010, was recently reappointed following El Tri’s disappointing group-stage exit at the Copa América under Jaime Lozano. Assisting Aguirre will be Mexican football legend Rafa Márquez, with Aguirre expected to remain in charge until after the 2026 World Cup, after which Márquez will take over.
After playing New Zealand, Mexico will face Canada in Arlington, Texas, as part of their U.S. friendlies tour. New Zealand, meanwhile, will follow up this clash with a game against the United States in Cincinnati, Ohio. The All Whites recently secured their sixth OFC Nations Cup title by defeating Vanuatu in the final.
