Tonight on the 50th annual Daytime Emmy Awards, General Hospital’s Finola Hughes stands poised to potentially secure her second Daytime Emmy in the Lead Actress in a Daytime Drama Series category. The ceremony will be broadcast live on CBS and available for streaming on Paramount+ starting at 9 PM ET.

Hughes previously clinched the prestigious award in 1991 for her portrayal of the intricate super spy Anna Devane. Regrettably, she was unable to attend the ceremony due to complications with her green card at that time.

In a recent interview with Michael Fairman TV at the 50th annual Daytime Nominee reception at the Hollywood Museum, Hughes reflected on the emotional journey leading up to the awards night. General Hospital enters the Daytime Emmy Awards with an impressive 19 nominations, making it the frontrunner in the competition. However, the past year has been bittersweet for the ABC soap opera, marked by the loss of several individuals both in front of and behind the camera.

Among those remembered were Sonya Eddy (ex-Epiphany), Nneka Garland (former producer), Jackie Zeman (ex-Bobbie), Billy Miller (ex-Jason/Drew), Bob Miller (ex-Costume Design, GH), and Tyler Christopher (ex-Nikolas, GH). Hughes shared that the losses have brought the cast and crew closer together, leading to meaningful conversations and introspection. Reflecting on the impact, Hughes mentioned, “There’s been a lot of talking. People have really got together and talked, starting with the passing of Sonya Eddy. It’s like we were all examining ourselves and her life and, I think that has just continued with each person that we’ve lost. I think losing Jackie Zeman was really a big blow for a lot of us.”

Speaking about the tribute for Tyler Christopher, Hughes described a heartfelt gathering of around 40 people who came together to pay their respects. The event, organized by Kimberly McCullough (ex-Robin, GH), was a touching and beautiful moment for all involved.
