Dollywood, the beloved theme park nestled in the heart of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, kicked off its longest season to date with a special celebration honoring the one and only Dolly Parton. As pink streamers fluttered through the air and Dolly herself dazzled in three stunning outfits, the park embarked on a journey to commemorate its Dreamer-in-Chief like never before.
“I just can’t believe that this is our 39th season and we’ve got so many great things this year and some big things certainly for next year, our 40th anniversary. We continue to grow every year,” exclaimed Dolly Parton during the park’s season passholder and media day on March 8.
With enthusiasm and pride, Dolly reflected on the park’s evolution over the years, marveling at the sea of cars and visitors that filled the parking lot. “It’s going to be a busy year for Dollywood, no doubt about that,” she declared, embodying the spirit of excitement that permeated the air.
At the heart of this milestone season is the highly-anticipated opening of The Dolly Parton Experience, set to debut on May 24. This immersive museum will take visitors on a captivating journey through Dolly’s remarkable life, from her humble beginnings in Locust Ridge to the bright lights of stages around the world. Spanning multiple buildings, the exhibit will showcase iconic memorabilia, including Dolly’s signature outfits, wigs, and personal mementos, while paying homage to her beloved family.
Reflecting on the creation of The Dolly Parton Experience, Dolly shared, “It stirs a lot of emotion in me. I remember things that happened during that time. I remember stuff backstage when I was wearing that dress or remember working with the person that made that outfit, or the behind the scenes of a movie.”
But the celebration doesn’t stop there. Dollywood will also debut a new Broadway-style show titled “From the Heart – The Life and Music of Dolly Parton.” Set against the backdrop of the Flower and Food Festival, this captivating production will offer audiences a glimpse into Dolly’s extraordinary journey, featuring beloved hits like “9 to 5” and “Islands in the Stream.”
Additionally, passholders were treated to a special preview of a family show written by Dolly herself, which will premiere alongside The Dolly Parton Experience. Starring Dolly’s niece, Heidi Parton, this heartfelt production promises to captivate audiences of all ages with its blend of music, storytelling, and genuine Dolly charm.
