Disney’s Gingerbread Alchemy: The Fascinating Process Behind the Giant House

Disney World’s Grand Floridian Resort boasts a spectacular holiday display in the form of a giant gingerbread house. Standing at 7 feet tall and 12 feet wide, this impressive edible creation is a replica of the hotel itself. Crafted from over 600 pounds of gingerbread, 600 pounds of powdered sugar, 250 pounds of fondant, and a pound of pixie dust, the gingerbread house is a festive attraction for visitors during the Christmas season.

Chef Allie, who leads the dessert team at Grand Floridian, revealed that the gingerbread pieces are cured for 30 days before assembly, providing stability and preventing breakage. This technique, known as curing, involves letting the gingerbread dough rest in the fridge for an extended period. The display, featuring intricate details and 25 hidden Mickeys, showcases the dedication and craftsmanship of the Disney culinary team.
