New smart home gadgets could support Apple’s future, according to the company’s most recent backend code leaks. According to the findings, Apple appears to be dramatically broadening its range of products, with a particular emphasis on the HomePod speaker system, updated Apple TV models, and an enigmatic “Home Accessory” item.

One notable find is a new device tagged as “HomeAccessory 17,1,” a completely fresh category in Apple’s code. This identifier parallels the naming convention used for the HomePod, known internally as “AudioAccessory,” hinting at Apple’s commitment to expanding its smart home offerings beyond current products.

Recently, another code leak disclosed details about five upcoming iPhone 16 models, including four variations of the iPhone 16 and a future iPhone SE 4. The numerical labeling (e.g., “iPhone 17,1”) reveals each device’s chipset and lineup position. For instance, “iPhone 17,1” signifies the upcoming iPhone 16 powered by the A18 chipset.

These leaks suggest that Apple’s upcoming “Home Accessory” device will also integrate the A18 processor and run on a version of tvOS, potentially a speculated “homeOS.” This aligns with the operating systems currently powering the HomePod Mini and HomePod 2, both based on tvOS.

Reports by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman imply Apple might be developing a HomePod variant featuring an “iPad-like” display, adding further intrigue to the Home Accessory speculations. Other leaks have hinted at a smaller LCD display being integrated into future HomePod models. Whether these developments are related to the mysterious “Home Accessory” remains uncertain.

Furthermore, the backend code has revealed references to two new Apple TV models, identified as AppleTV 14,4 and AppleTV 14,5. Since Apple’s last release of a new Apple TV device in 2022, speculation about potential updates has mounted. Before WWDC in June, there were expectations that Apple might unveil a new Apple TV box, but the event focused instead on Apple Intelligence initiatives.

Looking ahead, Apple enthusiasts anticipate potential announcements regarding new Apple TV sets at the next Apple event, likely in September. This event traditionally coincides with the unveiling of new iPhones and potentially a new Apple Watch Series 10. It could serve as a platform for Apple to showcase their latest innovations across various product lines, including advancements in smart home and entertainment offerings.

While these leaks provide tantalizing insights into Apple’s future product roadmap, details remain speculative until official announcements are made. The tech world eagerly awaits further developments from Apple, poised for potential redefinitions in smart home and entertainment experiences with their upcoming releases.
