The population of England and Wales has risen to 59,597,300, according to the preliminary results of the 2021 census.

It has grown by more than 3.5 million (6.3 percent) since the previous census in 2011, and it now has more people over the age of 65 than ever before.

When the published census figures for Northern Ireland and the official estimate of the Scottish population for 2020 are added together, the UK population now stands at 66,966,400.

The increase is the largest since the census began in 1801.
It also shows that the population of each English region and Wales increased.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) conducts the census every ten years, asking people to answer questions about themselves, their household, and their home in order to create a detailed snapshot of society.

The findings are intended to assist organisations in making decisions about how to plan and fund public services such as transportation, education, and healthcare.

The 2021 survey was conducted on March 21, 2018, against the backdrop of Brexit, which has resulted in immigration restrictions, and the coronavirus pandemic.
