Jessica Chastain leads a trio of female super spies in a new image from The 355. The spine chiller film also stars Lupita Nyongo, Diane Kruger, Sebastian Stan, Fan Bingbing and Penelope Cruz.
Chastain is of course no stranger to the world of spy action as she starred in the 2020 Tate Taylor film Ava. The 355 represents something of a change anyway as Chastain herself pitched the undertaking to director Simon Kinberg while the two were working on X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Theresa Rebeck and Kinberg eventually took on writing duties with Kinberg handling directorial chores. Plot details are mostly being left hidden however generally speaking the story sees Chastains CIA agent teaming with other international agents to recover a top-secret weapon. The title The 355 interestingly refers to Agent 355, a female spy who worked for the patriots during the American Revolution.
Thanks to Empire Magazine fans have now been given another short glimpse of The 355 and the female super spies at the focal point of the action. A newly released image shows Chastain, Kruger and Nyongo getting ready for some serious gunplay. See the image in the space beneath:
As teased by a trailer released back in October, nothing less than the fate of the world is at stake as the secret agents of The 355 approach their dangerous espionage business. Theres a definite international flavor to the entire affair too given the diverse cast, which perhaps already distinguishes the film from a ton of spy thrillers that tend to be more focused on America or Britain. Of course when World War III is potentially in the offing, one would trust that the responsible countries of the world would bring their best super spies together and attempt to do something about stopping such a catastrophic result for all humanity.
It remains to be seen assuming Chastains enormous swing in the world of international super spies with a female bowed leads to a franchise or ends up as a one-off affair. Its possible the film could end up launching Chastain and company on an on-going Mission:Impossible-type saga. Of course launching franchises isnt the easiest nowadays, especially when the IP in question is not something pre-existing that audiences already have familiarity with. Chastain and company are indeed facing a great deal of pretty serious obstacles as they bring The 355 into a world thats extremely unforgiving to original stories not based on previous movies, books or other properties. With any karma The 355 will actually want to beat the original IP issue and establish a refreshingly new take on the world of international intrigue.
