The Avengers almost featured Wasp as part of its list, and Zooey Deschanel was the top decision to play the job. Introduced in Tales to Astonish #44 in June 1963 by creators Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Ernie Hart, Janet Van Dyne a.k.a. The Wasp, has been an integral part of the Marvel Universe and was one of the founding individuals from the Avengers. The character is a fan favorite, and Marvel appeared to have any desire for incorporating the character into the MCU early on as she was prominently featured in the 2010 animated series, Avengers: Earth Mightiest Heroes.
In the as of late released book, The Story of Marvel Studios: The Making of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, via Slashfilm, Whedon’s top decision to play the Wasp was as a matter of fact Zooey Deschanel. Wasp was included in the content when it was uncertain if Scarlett Johansson could have the option to reprise her job as Black Widow in The Avengers because of scheduling clashes. Marvel maker Jeremy Latcham explains that Wasp was the most amusing character in the film. The two statements can be read underneath:
Jeremy Latcham: It was all about The Wasp. He wanted to cast Zooey Deschanel. [Wasp] was the most entertaining character in the entire film, and elegantly composed.
Joss Whedon: The Wasp happened because there was a brief period where it seemed as though we wouldn’t have been able to get Scarlett [due to scheduling conflicts], so I was panicking. I thought, ‘Hang tight, we could do The Wasp.’ Then I fell head over heels for that. Be that as it may, we got Scarlett, and then I realized I had composed this whole film about The Wasp. Uh oh. I overcompensated there.
As for Deschanel, her career might have taken a totally different path in the event that she had endorsed on for The Avengers. The film entered improvement in 2010 and began in the late spring of 2011, which would have kept Deschanel from accepting the lead job in New Girl, which is arguably Deschanel’s most famous job to date. New Girl was the breakout vehicle for various stars like Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris, and Hannah Simone, and without Deschanel as the star, it is a keep thinking about whether it would’ve made headway. While Deschanel has yet to play a superhuman, with characters like Sue Storm from the Fantastic 4 for Marvel and DC’s Zatanna coming to the big screen, there are a lot of characters for her to play.
