Resident Kane will be the Criterion Collection’s first 4k release. Released in 1941, the immortal classic often beat records and is considered by many fans to be the greatest and most influential film of all time. From chief Orson Welles (who also stars) and screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz, the film starts with the death of distributing head honcho Charles Foster Kane and then flashes back to various pivotal focuses in his life as journalists attempt to reveal the meaning of his final utterance, “Rosebud.”
The Criterion Collection announced that it would make the leap to 4K, and their first release will be none other than Citizen Kane. Their impending slate of Ultra HD releases also incorporates Menace II Society, The Piano, Mulholland Dr., The Red Shoes, and A Hard Day’s Night, according to SlashFilm. Each of these titles will be available in a 4K UHD and Blu-ray combo pack.
Because of this 4k release, Citizen Kane will probably be seeing another resurgence in popularity, which it just had with the release of David Fincher’s Mank last year. The Netflix film follows its titular character, Herman J. Mankiewicz (played by Gary Oldman), as he races to complete the film’s content and almost has credit taken by Orson Welles. The film was an interesting look in the background of Citizen Kane’s turn of events and the job that media baron William Randolph Heart played.
While physical media has been gradually falling by the wayside in favor of streaming and digital on-demand, the Criterion Collection is as yet leading the charge in this regard. Since 1984, the shop distributer has been gathering probably the most critically acclaimed classics, along for certain contemporary movies that have gone neglected, and releasing them on DVD and Blu-ray in enhanced quality. For Criterion, the leap to 4k and UHD is long late, especially on the off chance that it wishes to stay serious in today’s media landscape. Rule couldn’t have picked a superior classic film to do as such than one often heralded as the greatest of all time. Resident Kane will be released in 4k this November.
