When signing onto Black Widow, Rachel Weisz didn’t discuss her MCU future playing Melina. Weisz is one of the many MCU newcomers who made their debuts in Black Widow, the hotly anticipated solo film centered on Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff. Once scheduled for last year, the movie at last showed up this end of the week after different COVID-related delays. Black Widow introduces audiences to Natasha’s pre-Avengers family, which includes Weisz’s Melina, a scientist working for the Red Room who posed as mother to Natasha and Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh). Balancing the once-cheerful family is Alexei Shostakov (David Harbor), otherwise known as Red Guardian.

As Melina ends Black Widow alive, it seems likely she will get back to the MCU overlay later on. Nonetheless, Weisz doesn’t yet realize what will come next for her. Speaking to Collider about the film, Weisz responded to the question of whether she discussed her Marvel future in front of Black Widow. “That is to say, it would be distinctive for each entertainer, yet for me, it was just for this film,” she said.

In the beginning of the MCU, actors would sign on for 9 movies immediately, regardless of whether they didn’t have the foggiest idea what those movies would wind up being. Marvel is done using this training, so it’s a good idea that Weisz would have possibly discussed Black Widow when joining the franchise. That doesn’t mean Melina won’t ever be seen again in the MCU, just that there seems to be all the more a slow consume approach going on in the background.

The present moment, it isn’t clear if there will be a Black Widow 2. In any case, with Yelena steadily making her mark within the MCU, it stands to reason she could proceed to lead her own film. That could give the ideal opening to bring Melina back for another experience. Another choice could see Melina and Alexei driving their own spin-off, or perhaps there will just be a future movie that brings unites them with the rest of the MCU. The possibilities are always endless with regards to this franchise, and it will be very interesting to see where the characters of Black Widow go straightaway.
