Mac McClung became an overnight star after winning the Slam Dunk Contest on Saturday as the star player gained more than 238,000 followers on Instagram in a single night.

Mac went from a G league player to a sensation on the NBA’s premier stage in no time.

“I spent a month and a half to two months practicing. I watched professional dunk contests. I was like if I’m going to do this, I want to be prepared and make the most of the moment,” Mac told to FOX Sports on Tuesday.

McClung also described his experience sharing room with his high school best friend Bradley Dean who apparently snored all night, the day before the competition. “I was hitting him so hard, I was slapping him,… I just felt like a zombie,” McClung said, letting a laugh out.

The star also expressed hopes of getting a call to play in the NBA. “I want to make an impact in the NBA and that’s definitely my main focus, but [the dunk contest] is definitely something I will never forget for the rest of my life,” he said.

McClung on Future plans

When was asked by Sixers about his future plans, Mac replied, “I’m just focusing on becoming the best player I can be. Right now, I’m with the Blue Coats and whatever happens, I’ll be ready and I’m ready to be a part and help whenever my time is called.”

The star also talked about whether he’ll be playing more dunk contests in the future. “I had four dunks. I had eight dunks I was choosing between and four of them didn’t make the cut that I really liked, too so those are definitely still in the bag. If it was to happen again next year, I would definitely try to be creative and think of some new things as well. I love creating new dunks and we had a lot of fun in this process doing that,” he said.
