Musk Admits He “Went Too Far” in Twitter Attacks on Trump
Tech mogul Elon Musk publicly expressed regret on Wednesday, stating that some of his social media comments about former President Donald Trump “went too far.” He did not specify which posts but removed several in recent days.
The once close bond—Musk supported Trump in 2024 with nearly $300 million in campaign contributions. Trump rewarded him with a federal advisory role aimed at boosting government efficiency. However, their relationship soured after Musk harshly criticized Trump’s sweeping tax-and-spending bill as a "disgusting abomination" and publicly proposed impeachment. Trump responded by severing ties and warning Musk of possible repercussions.
Following Musk’s apology, Tesla shares rallied—up around 2–2.7% in Frankfurt and pre-market U.S. trading—appearing to reflect investor approval of a more conciliatory tone. Musk also reacted with a heart emoji to a clip of Trump offering well wishes and signaling continued use of SpaceX's Starlink.
Despite his regret, Musk left unclear whether he plans to fully renew ties with Trump. It's uncertain if this reversal marks a strategic realignment ahead of SpaceX and Tesla’s major milestones—including the upcoming Tesla robotaxi launch—or simply a bid to calm investor concerns.
This episode marks a dramatic reversal for Musk—from sharp political criticism to a more measured tone. It stresses how volatile public figures’ rhetoric can be, and underscores how their behavior can directly impact corporate value and policy dynamics.
