Grammy-winning artist Billie Eilish is taking a bold step towards a greener future by partnering with environmental non-profit REVERB to introduce solar-powered “zero-emissions battery systems” at her headlining set in the Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago on Thursday. The initiative is part of the Music Decarbonization Project, which Eilish co-founded with REVERB, aiming to reduce the carbon emissions associated with live music events.

The revolutionary move will involve the installation of a temporary “solar farm” at Grant Park, the iconic venue of Lollapalooza. The batteries will be charged using solar energy, providing power for Billie Eilish’s performance. By incorporating this emerging clean energy solution, Eilish aims to set an example for the music industry and contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions.

The Music Decarbonization Project envisions a future that relies less on highly polluting diesel generators and more on sustainable and environmental-friendly energy sources. Eilish hopes that her solar-powered performance will demonstrate the viability of clean energy technology in powering large stages and inspire the music industry to embrace more sustainable practices.

REVERB’s co-founder and co-executive director, Adam Gardner, expressed his belief that this moment could be a turning point for the music industry. By showcasing this innovative technology on one of the most prestigious festival stages with one of the biggest artists in the world, they aim to accelerate the transition towards a decarbonized future, not only for music but also beyond.

Billie Eilish has been a vocal advocate for climate action, consistently using her platform to raise awareness about environmental issues. In her recent Happier Than Ever, The World Tour, Eilish partnered with REVERB to engage fans in pro-climate initiatives, raising an impressive $116,000 for climate-related nonprofits through their bottle project.

Moreover, during the tour, Eilish collaborated with her mother Maggie Baird’s non-profit organization Support + Feed. The organization’s mission is to address food scarcity and climate change by providing nourishing plant-based meals to those in need. Through these efforts, the tour managed to raise over $990,000 for various environmental and climate justice causes and projects.

Billie Eilish’s commitment to sustainability and climate activism showcases the power of artists to lead by example and drive positive change in the entertainment industry. Her solar-powered performance at Lollapalooza will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact and inspire others to take steps towards a greener and more sustainable future.
