Miss Denmark Breaks Barriers with First-Ever Miss Universe Win

The 73rd annual Miss Universe pageant, held in Mexico City on Saturday, crowned Victoria Kjær Theilvig of Denmark as the new titleholder. At 21, Theilvig made history as the first Danish woman to win Miss Universe, ending a 61-year drought for her country in the top five. She was crowned by Sheynnis Palacios, the 2023 titleholder and the first Nicaraguan woman to win the competition.

In second place was Miss Nigeria Chidimma Adetshina, the first Nigerian to ever place in the top five, followed by Miss Mexico María Fernanda Beltrán Figueroa.

Theilvig's inspiring answer during the final round, where all top five contestants were asked, "What is your message to the women watching you right now?", emphasized resilience: "No matter where you come from, no matter your past, you can always choose to turn it into your strengths. It will never define who you are. You just gotta keep fighting."

In addition to her advocacy for mental health and animal rights, Theilvig is a dancer, beauty entrepreneur, and aspiring lawyer. The pageant also saw other historic moments, such as Miss Egypt Logina Salah, the first woman with vitiligo to compete, and 40-year-old Miss Malta Beatrice Njoya, the oldest contestant in the history of the competition.
