Michael Fassbender Open to Returning as Magneto in the MCU: "Never Say Never

The magnetic portrayal of Magneto in the "X-Men" film series by Michael Fassbender has been talked about amid recent comments he made on  possibly playing the role again. During his recent interview, Fassbender declared  himself  to be open to playing the character again and particularly after a reference made to Magneto in the most eagerly awaited "Deadpool & Wolverine" movie.

Never say never," Fassbender said, indulging the  rumors surrounding  his  potential involvement in Marvel Studios' plans to incorporate the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His comment has just set fans aflame, whose favorite  rendition of Erik Lehnsherr, he played, is one of the best parts of Fox's "X-Men" franchise.

There has been a substantial redefinition of Magneto in Fassbender's portrayal  since his introduction in 2011's "X-Men: First Class". He presented the mutant  antihero as nuanced and deeply emotional. Over four films, he communicated the Holocaust survivor who became a mutant revolutionary so nicely that public and critics alike still claim it a defining performance throughout his career.

It only takes a fleeting mention of Magneto in "Deadpool & Wolverine" to  add  further fuel to speculation surrounding the character's return to the big screen. Having recently invited elements of the multiverse into the Marvel Studios umbrella has already paved the way for some characters and stars to make their returns, such as Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in "Spider-Man: No Way Home". Could Fassbender's Magneto be the next addition to this list?

While Fassbender has remained tight-lipped about the specifics of any possible  discussions with Marvel, returning is consistent with the MCU approach of  meshing newcomers with legacy figures. In that respect, with Hugh Jackman set to reprise his role in the new "Deadpool" sequel, it would not be surprising if  Fassbender's Magneto somehow pops up.

Fans have theorized at length about how the X-Men will be integrated into the MCU, from alternate universes to the arrival of mutants in the main timeline. Magneto is one of the most compelling characters for their backstory and  motivations, introducing him to complex places that actually tend to be in the space of moral ambiguity.

Fassbender's return may also open the door for the continuation of the dynamic between his character and McAvoy's Charles Xavier. Their dynamic as mentor and sometimes rogue rival was a huge highlight of the "X-Men" prequels, and fans are desperately looking forward to seeing that relationship again.

For Fassbender, the call would probably come down to the script and what kind of direction Marvel wants to take on Magneto. Fassbender has always  chosen  challenging roles for himself, so reimagined in the MCU, he could tackle  new  dimensions of Magneto.

As Marvel Studios continues to build anticipation for its next slate of films, Fassbender's openness to reprising Magneto offers a glimmer of hope to fans yearning for a seamless bridge between the "X-Men" films of yore and the MCU's future. The possibility of Fassbender donning the iconic helmet again remains tantalizingly within reach for now.
