LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight — Gotham Awaits

Imagine leaping into Batman’s world—not just one version of the Dark Knight, but a rich tapestry spanning his entire 86-year legacy. That vision is now coming to life with LEGO® Batman™: Legacy of the Dark Knight, officially revealed at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live. Developed by TT Games (the creators behind LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga), this new action-adventure game is set to release in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.

A Hero’s Journey Through Time

The storyline begins with a young Bruce Wayne training with the League of Shadows—and from there, it evolves into an epic narrative that layers in decades of Batman lore drawn from comics, films, television, and earlier games. As you progress, players will team up with the familiar faces of the Bat-family—Jim Gordon, Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing, Catwoman, and Talia al Ghul—while confronting iconic villains such as Joker, Penguin, Poison Ivy, Ra’s al Ghul, and Bane (voiced by Matt Berry).

Gotham, Rebuilt Brick by Brick

What truly sets this game apart is its seamless open-world design. Players can swing across rooftops, glide above the city, or drive through dark streets using Batmobiles and Batcycles. Landmark spots like Arkham Asylum, Wayne Tower, Ace Chemicals, and Gotham Botanical Gardens await exploration, complete with crimes to foil, puzzles to unravel, rewards to find, and secrets to uncover. The Batcave transforms into a customizable hub where you can showcase your growing collection of trophies, vehicles, and Batman suits—like the legendary Golden Age Batsuit, unlockable via a WB Games account.

Combat, Upgraded

Gone are the days of simple button mashing. Legacy of the Dark Knight introduces a sophisticated combat system inspired by Rocksteady’s Arkham series. Think fluid combos, stealth takedowns, counters, cinematic moves, and gadget-heavy strategies. Batman wields his classic gear—Batarangs, Batclaw—while sidekicks bring their own flair: Gordon’s foam sprayer, Robin’s line launcher, and Catwoman’s whip.

Teamwork and Replay Value

Solo or alongside a friend in local co-op, this game offers playstyles for many users. And when you’re ready for a real challenge, two fresh difficulty modes—Caped Crusader and Dark Knight—will push even seasoned fans to their limits.

A Love Letter to Batman

This project has drawn praise from industry luminaries. DC’s Jim Lee calls it a “love letter to Batman,” highlighting how it brings together everything that makes the character iconic—Dark Knight, detective, mentor, and more—with respect and creativity. JB Perrette from Warner Bros. Discovery emphasized that the game is tailored to entertain players of all kinds, while TT Games calls it a “celebration of everything Batman” that lifts LEGO gameplay to new heights.

Why Fans Should Be Excited

This will likely be the most ambitious LEGO Batman game ever. It promises a sprawling Gotham, deep combat mechanics, nostalgic callbacks across media, and the trademark LEGO humor. Whether you're a longtime fan of the Caped Crusader, a LEGO enthusiast, or someone new to the genre, Legacy of the Dark Knight has something to offer.
