Lee Pace To Star Opposite Glen Powell In Edgar Wright's 'The Running Man'
This is great news for the moviegoer and even for the purist aficionados of Stephen King's novel. Lee Pace is reportedly cast in Edgar Wright's The Running Man alongside Glen Powell. The movie is based on King's 1982 novel, where he wrote under his pen name Richard Bachman, and will promise to give a new view at the dystopian elements of entertainment that survive and drives society.
Pace has proven to be full of versatility for such various projects like Halt and Catch Fire, The Hobbit, and Guardians of the Galaxy but plays the film's main antagonist in what promises to add more layers and depth to that character. The original story started off with a plot revolving around a game show where contestants avoid getting caught as long as the professional killers are hot on their tail, and Pace will play what is hoped to be a pivotal role in upping the stakes on Powell's character.
He is one of the talented actors of his film Top Gun: Maverick and even as recently in his film Set It Up. Powell will play the title role of Ben Richards, wrongly convicted entering as a last hope into the deadly game show. Sure enough, one of the anticipated centerpieces of the story is probably going to be that dynamic between Powell and Pace, whose characters probably have a battle of wits for survival at high stakes.
Once again, a new genre mixture attracted the attention of the great film director Edgar Wright, characterized by his unique manner. For this, he was excited about it with the words: "It's a massive opportunity to bring to life The Running Man, and I couldn't be more thrilled to work with such fine actors. Lee and Glen together will craft a tremendous tale that is a pleasing gesture in homage to the original, yet one that will bring a fresh perspective.".
With the action mixed with dark satire, critical of the extent of media influence on society and just how far people would go to stay alive, the film was to combine both the explosive action and the understated social commentary about the work by King. Excitement is building over Wright's vision as he assembles his cast.
And just as production is now picking up, the hunger for how Wright will reinterpret this classic tale for a new generation has fans salivating. With the likes of Lee Pace and Glen Powell leading the charge, this is potentially going to be an extremely exciting film with excitement embedded in its theme delivery. The Running Man is actually expected to hit theaters in 2025. Of course, further details concerning the cast and plot details will slowly unfurl in the coming months.
