KCAL News Anchor and Emmy-Winner Chauncy Glover Dies at 39

Chauncy Glover, the Emmy Award-winning journalist and anchor, tragically passed away at the age of 39. Glover, who had joined the KCAL News team in October 2023, was deeply respected for his dedication to both journalism and community service. He had previously made history in Houston as the first Black male main evening anchor at KTRK, where he worked for eight years before moving to California.

Throughout his career, Glover was known not only for his journalistic excellence but also for his deep commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others, particularly through the Chauncy Glover Project (CGP). This mentorship program, which he started after witnessing a teenager’s death on the streets of Detroit, aimed to transform teenage boys into "upstanding gentlemen." CGP helped over 1,000 young men, sending more than 350 boys of color to college, emphasizing success through dress, etiquette, public speaking, and community service.

Chauncy’s roots in journalism were traced back to his childhood when his father built him a mini anchor desk for his weekly family newscasts. He worked across various states, including Georgia, Michigan, and Texas, before making his mark in California. His warm, inspiring personality also shone through in his passion for theater and motivational speaking. One of his proudest moments was singing at the funeral of civil rights icon Rosa Parks in Montgomery, Alabama.

In a statement, his family shared their grief, remembering him as a compassionate and talented individual who made an indelible impact on his community and the people around him. His death has left a profound void, and his legacy continues to inspire many.
