Billed under her stage name Kathryn Grant, the Houston native made significant contributions to the film industry, particularly in the film noir genre. She worked with renowned director Phil Karlson on five features, including Tight Spot and The Phenix City Story. In a standout role, she portrayed Princess Parisa in the beloved fantasy film The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, which showcased her charm and talent.
In 1957, Kathryn married Bing Crosby, marking a significant turning point in her life and career. The couple wed in a Las Vegas church, with Kathryn being 23 and Bing 54 at the time. Reflecting on their relationship, she expressed gratitude for marrying an older man, appreciating his established character and stability.
While her acting career took a backseat as she devoted herself to family life—raising three children, Harry, Mary, and Nathaniel—she still made appearances alongside Bing on various television specials and commercials, embodying the image of the all-American family. Following Bing’s passing in 1977, Kathryn returned to the stage, participating in productions like Same Time, Next Year and the Broadway revival of State Fair.
Born Olive Kathryn Grandstaff on November 25, 1933, in Houston, Texas, she first gained attention as a runner-up in a Miss Texas beauty pageant before transitioning to Hollywood with the help of a talent agent.
