Kamala Harris Concession Speech: Time and What We Know So Far

Vice President Kamala Harris is set to deliver her concession speech in the 2024 presidential race on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET from Howard University in Washington, D.C. The historically Black college and Harris's alma mater was also the planned site for her election night rally, which concluded early Wednesday morning when it became apparent that former President Donald Trump had won a second term.

Harris’s speech will mark the end of a historic campaign that followed President Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from the race in July after a challenging debate with Trump. Though pre-election polls indicated a tight race between Harris and Trump, the former president secured a decisive victory, taking key battleground states such as North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Harris’s campaign faced the headwinds of an unpopular Biden administration, with Biden's disapproval rating in exit polls reaching around 41%. Despite these challenges, Harris broke fundraising records alongside the Democratic Party, raising over $1 billion since her nomination in July. She drew notable support from high-profile figures, including Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. In contrast, Elon Musk was among the prominent backers of Trump.

As Harris addresses her supporters at Howard, she will conclude a three-month campaign that symbolized significant milestones for the Democratic Party and brought unprecedented engagement from a diverse coalition. Her concession speech is expected to reflect on her journey and her ongoing commitment to public service.
