Ja’Marr Chase Sets NFL Record with 457 Receiving Yards Against Ravens This Season

Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase has carved his name into NFL history with a record-breaking performance against the Baltimore Ravens this season, achieving something no player before him has ever done.

In a standout display on Thursday night, Chase racked up 264 receiving yards, adding to the 193 yards he logged against Baltimore in their Week Five matchup. His combined total of 457 receiving yards against a single opponent in a season shatters the previous record, which stood unchallenged for 61 years. This remarkable feat now sets the NFL record for the most receiving yards by one player against a single opponent in a season.

The former record was held by Art Powell of the Oakland Raiders, who amassed 428 yards across two games against the Houston Oilers in 1963. Powell, who passed away in 2015, was one of the standout receivers of the American Football League (AFL). Though largely unrecognized by modern fans, Powell’s contributions were significant, and his legacy is preserved in the NFL record books, as the league officially recognizes AFL statistics. Despite his monumental yardage, Powell’s efforts also carried his Raiders to victory in both contests against the Oilers.

For Chase, however, the record-setting yardage came with mixed fortunes. Unlike Powell, whose Raiders won both of their games, Chase’s Bengals fell short against the Ravens twice this season. Yet, Chase’s record remains a testament to his unmatched ability to make big plays and elevate his performance against one of the league’s toughest defenses. At just 23 years old, Chase continues to redefine what’s possible at the wide receiver position, solidifying his status as one of the NFL’s elite talents and setting a new standard for excellence.
