It Feels Rebellious” – Aimee Lou Wood Shuts Down Hollywood Beauty Standards
Aimee Lou Wood Claps Back at Criticism Over Her Teeth in The White Lotus 3: "It Feels Rebellious"
The White Lotus Star Embraces Her Natural Look and Talks Hollywood Beauty Standards
Aimee Lou Wood, known for her roles in Sex Education and the upcoming season of The White Lotus, isn’t afraid to address public scrutiny about her looks—especially when it comes to her teeth.
The British actress has openly discussed the challenges of navigating Hollywood beauty standards and how embracing her natural features has helped her build confidence.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Wood shared her thoughts on being considered "unconventional" in the entertainment industry.
"All I ever do is take the piss out of myself. Even the way [White Lotus fans] are talking about me and my teeth—that I don’t have veneers or Botox—it feels a bit rebellious."
Aimee Lou Wood on Feeling ‘Different’ in Hollywood
Before landing her breakout role as Aimee Gibbs on Netflix’s Sex Education (which earned her a BAFTA Award), Wood started her career on stage. However, she once believed her distinctive look might hold her back from getting roles on television.
“I was always confident in theater auditions, but when it came to TV, I was shocked whenever I got a callback," she admitted.
Wood assumed that actors cast in major streaming series—especially on Netflix—needed to have the "perfect Hollywood look", including veneers, Botox, and polished aesthetics.
"I used to think, ‘Maybe I’ll get something on Channel 4, but I’ll never be cast on Netflix.’”
Despite her initial doubts, she landed a lead role in one of Netflix’s biggest hits, proving that talent—not just conventional beauty—wins in the end.

The ‘London Look’ That Changed Everything
Wood credits Georgia May Jagger for helping her embrace her unique smile.
In 2009, when Jagger became the face of Rimmel London’s “Get the London Look” campaign, it changed perceptions of beauty.
"People used to call her goofy. Then, suddenly, she was this supermodel with a cool, unique look. That was a turning point for me."
Inspired by Jagger, Wood started wearing bold red lipstick to highlight her natural features instead of trying to hide them.
She also received messages from fans saying that her confidence helped them embrace their own teeth, making them feel cooler and more self-assured.
Does Hollywood Expect Perfection?
While Hollywood’s beauty standards remain strict, Wood is proof that authenticity is gaining more appreciation.
In a February 2025 interview with On Demand Entertainment, she joked about how her teeth make her stand out in the U.S.:
"No Americans have teeth like mine. If I wanted to fully blend in, I’d need veneers."
She recalled an experience in Chicago while performing in a play, where a man at a bar complimented her American accent but admitted that he could tell she wasn’t American:
"He said, ‘I knew you weren’t from the U.S. because you don’t look American.’"
Though such comments used to make her feel insecure, Wood now embraces her uniqueness and sees it as an asset rather than a flaw.

While some critics focus on her appearance, Wood remains unapologetic about her individuality.

Redefining Beauty on Her Own Terms
