Story
A handwritten manuscript of Dante Alighieri’s epic poem The Divine Comedy, Hand of Dante, chronicles the protagonist’s dramatic transformation from a devoted priest to a feared mob boss in New York City. After going through a number of hands, the manuscript ends up in the hands of Nick Tosches, a scholar who is entrusted with confirming its authenticity. When Tosches learns previously unknown details about the manuscript and its historical significance, he gets caught up in a perilous web of crime and deceit. A gripping investigation into crime, art, and the strength of belief results from his investigation, which attracts the attention of influential and dangerous people.
Plot Summary
A devoted priest finds a strange manuscript that seems to be an original handwritten copy of Dante’s The Divine Comedy in the opening scene of the movie. Seeing its potential, he gives it to a well-known mob boss in New York City in the hopes that the person there will guard it against anyone trying to take advantage of its value. Intrigued by the manuscript’s possibilities, the mob boss calls in rare manuscript specialist Nick Tosches, as well as Dante’s work.
Tosches gets sucked into a dangerous game of cat and mouse as he starts to investigate the authenticity of the manuscript. Dark secrets are revealed throughout the manuscript’s journey, and Tosches is forced to make his way through a perilous underworld of organized crime, trickery, and treachery. He meets a diverse group of people along the road, all of whom have deep motivations and ties to the manuscript.
