Story
A young woman from northern New Jersey named Candace longs for a new beginning far from the poverty and violence that characterize her hometown. She drives to Miami, Florida, in desperation to start over, hoping to find opportunity and serenity. However, destiny has other ideas.
A serious accident blocks Interstate 95, forcing Candace to take an unplanned detour through a remote part of North Carolina while she is driving. She gets stuck in the middle of nowhere as night falls and her car starts to break down. She finds what looks to be an abandoned roadside clinic while looking for assistance.
Within, she meets Dr. D. Ferguson, an enigmatic yet amiable physician who extends help. Candace soon discovers, though, that she has unintentionally fallen into a terrifying trap. The clinic is actually a front for a terrifying human trafficking ring headed by the deranged Dr. Ferguson, who is obsessed with control and power.
Candace’s encounter with Poppy—a psychotic, murderous clown who serves as the twisted asylum’s enforcer—only heightens her fear. Poppy is a terrifying character who takes great pleasure in torturing his victims and uses severe violence and psychological terror to control them. In order to survive the horrors that unfold, Candace needs to use all of her strength and cunning. She becomes aware that leaving the clinic might not be feasible as she learns its sinister secrets.

Plot Summary
