The strike began on July 14 after SAG-AFTRA’s contract expired and negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers broke down. The key issues at stake include compensation for actors from streaming platforms and dealing with artificial intelligence. The union felt that a labor stoppage was necessary to secure the best deal for its members.

Stephen Amell’s statement makes him one of the first actors to publicly voice his opposition to the strike. SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher previously explained that the union felt like victims in the situation, as they were being treated unfairly by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. She expressed shock at the wide gap in negotiations and criticized the producers for claiming poverty while providing significant sums to CEOs.

The strike has put the entertainment industry at a standstill, impacting various TV shows and film productions. As the negotiations continue, actors like Stephen Amell remain divided on the effectiveness and implications of the strike as a means to achieve their goals.
