Ghostface is set to make a chilling return, as a seventh installment of the iconic horror franchise, “Scream,” has been officially announced. The upcoming sequel will be directed by Christopher Landon, a seasoned filmmaker with a successful track record in the horror genre, known for works like “Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones,” “Freaky,” and “Happy Death Day.”

Landon teased the exciting news on his Twitter account, stating, “Looks like 7 really is a lucky number. More to come…” accompanied by an image of the infamous Ghostface mask.

The announcement comes after the release of “Scream VI” earlier this year, which had the most significant opening weekend box office performance in the franchise’s history. Moreover, the film became the first in the series to surpass the $100 million mark in domestic box office earnings since “Scream 2” in 1997.

Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who operate as the directing duo Radio Silence, “Scream VI” continued the legacy of the franchise after the passing of its creator, Wes Craven, in 2015.

The stellar cast of “Scream VI” included Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and returning Scream veteran Courteney Cox. Hayden Panettiere, who appeared in “Scream 4,” also made a return in the latest installment. However, Neve Campbell, who portrayed Sidney Prescott in the majority of the Scream movies, did not reprise her role for “Scream VI” due to contractual issues.

Last year, Campbell candidly revealed that she made a tough decision not to return, citing disagreements over the offered terms. However, she expressed a willingness to consider returning if the right opportunity presented itself. She mentioned that any potential return would require a fresh approach and a respectful offer that recognizes her value to the franchise over the past two decades.

Despite her absence in “Scream VI,” the director, Bettinelli-Olpin, made it clear that they are eager to have Campbell back and that they hold her and her character, Sidney Prescott, in high regard. Their commitment to exploring future projects with her is unwavering.

While the specifics of “Scream 7” remain under wraps, fans of the franchise can expect more spine-chilling thrills, suspenseful storytelling, and the iconic Ghostface killer that has become synonymous with the series.

As production gears up for the next chapter in the “Scream” saga under the direction of Christopher Landon, horror enthusiasts can eagerly anticipate a fresh take on the genre and a continuation of the terror that has kept audiences on the edge of their seats for decades.
