Scarlett Johansson Shares How Son Cosmo’s Name Is Linked to Daughter Rose

Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost, the power couple of Hollywood, welcomed their son, Cosmo, in August 2021. Scarlett Johansson, known for her wit and humor, shared insights into the unique choice of her son’s name during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. Initially joking that they “just threw a bunch of letters together,” Scarlett later explained the charming reasoning behind their decision.

Scarlett revealed that they found the name “Cosmo” delightful, and it received approval from their friends. However, the name also carries a special connection to their daughter’s name, Rose.

The actress and her husband, Colin Jost, tied the knot in October 2020, and their family includes Scarlett’s daughter, Rose Dorothy, from her previous marriage to Romain Dauriac. When it came to naming their son, Scarlett mentioned that there was a bit of chaos, but eventually, the name Cosmo prevailed.

Even Colin Jost’s mother had some alternative name suggestions, but Scarlett stood firm in her choice, saying, “No, he’s already here, he’s out.” She also shared that her daughter, Rose, approved of her little brother’s name.

During the conversation, Scarlett and Kelly Clarkson noted the floral connection between the names of their children. Scarlett mentioned, “I love that they’re both flowers,” and added that Cosmo is a charming flower that comes in different shades of orange and yellow.

Scarlett Johansson’s choice of the name Cosmo seems to have struck a chord with her friends, as she revealed, “It just seemed like a refreshing — it’s so charming. Our friends all liked it.”

In a previous interview, Scarlett Johansson also shared some early adventures with her son, Cosmo, who, at just 13 months old, was already exploring the world around him, including discovering his own tiny toes. She humorously recalled some initial challenges her daughter faced in adjusting to her role as an older sister when Cosmo was born.
