Due to the disruption brought on by the ongoing Hollywood double strike, Lionsgate has delayed the release of the Helen Mirren film White Bird and the Dirty Dancing sequel.

White Bird was originally scheduled for August 18 but has been moved into the third quarter without a set date. Lionsgate pushed the movie, according to Screen, since Mirren and the cast were prohibited from doing any promotional work while SAG-AFTRA was on strike.

According to the calculations, Wonder 2 will profit from a later release since by then, it is hoped, the strike will be ended and the cast will be able to support the movie, which in 2017 grossed $315 million globally and $132 million in North America.

The drama, which also features Gillian Anderson and Wonder actor Bryce Gheisar, was directed by Marc Forster.

The release date of the Dirty Dancing sequel has been delayed from February 9th, 2024 to summer 2025. The director is Jonathan Levine (50/50, The Wackness).

Jennifer Grey, who played alongside Patrick Swayze in the 1987 original about a young woman who falls in love with her dancing instructor at summer camp in the Catskills, is rumoured to be returning as Frances “Baby” Houseman.

In other news, Lionsgate will release Kevin Greutert’s Saw X, the newest installment in the venerable horror series, on September 29. The narrative, which occurs between the events of Saw and Saw II, has Tobin Bell (pictured) reprising his role as Jigsaw.

Borderlands, directed by Eli Roth and starring Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Edgar Ramirez, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Gina Gershon, and Jamie Lee Curtis, will premiere on August 9th, 2024.
