Renowned actor and producer Robert De Niro has been selected as the recipient of the National Association of Broadcasters Leadership Foundation’s prestigious 2024 Service to America Leadership Award. This honor recognizes individuals for their outstanding charitable work and dedication to public service.

The award will be presented to De Niro at a special event on June 4 at The Anthem, located on The Wharf in Southwest Washington, D.C. Known for his iconic roles in feature films spanning five decades, as well as his contributions as a producer and co-founder of Tribeca Enterprises, De Niro has made significant contributions to both the entertainment industry and his community.

Michelle Duke, President and CEO of the NAB Leadership Foundation, expressed excitement about honoring De Niro’s decades-long commitment to philanthropy and the arts. She highlighted De Niro’s passion for human rights and access to the arts through his involvement with the Tribeca Festival, which he co-founded in 2001 to support the revitalization of lower Manhattan after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The Tribeca Festival serves as a platform for artists and audiences to come together and celebrate storytelling in various forms, including film, TV, music, and audio storytelling. De Niro’s dedication to using film and media for social impact is further demonstrated through his involvement with organizations such as FilmAid’s Global Artists Council and The Community, which focus on providing support and hope to refugees and promoting peace-building efforts worldwide.

Throughout his illustrious career, De Niro has received numerous accolades, including Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor in “The Godfather, Part II” and Best Actor in “Raging Bull.” He has also been recognized with prestigious honors such as the Kennedy Center Honor, Cecil B. DeMille Award, SAG Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

De Niro joins a distinguished list of past recipients of the Service to America Leadership Award, including former first ladies Laura Bush and Nancy Reagan, chef and humanitarian José Andrés, artist Patti LaBelle, “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, musician John Legend, and Jon Bon Jovi.

In addition to honoring individuals like De Niro, the Celebration of Service to America Awards recognizes local television and radio stations, as well as broadcast groups, for their philanthropic efforts and community service initiatives. Mutual of Omaha has been announced as the recipient of the Corporate Leadership Award for their contributions to public service.

The 2024 Celebration of Service to America Awards, presented by Bonneville International and Hearst Television, promises to be a memorable event celebrating the impact of individuals and organizations in supporting their communities and making a difference through philanthropy and public service.
