Young actor Marc Gilpin, best known for his role as Sean Brody in the 1978 film “Jaws 2,” has passed away at the age of 56 after a long battle with glioblastoma. His sister, Peri Gilpin, famous for her role in “Frasier,” announced his death.

Marc Gilpin was just 11 years old when he won the role of Sean Brody, the younger son of Roy Scheider’s Police Chief Martin Brody, in the highly anticipated sequel to Steven Spielberg‘s blockbuster “Jaws.” He beat out hundreds of other boys to land the role in the film directed by Jeannot Szwarc.

After “Jaws 2,” Gilpin continued his acting career with guest appearances on TV shows like “CHiPs” and “Fantasy Island.” He also appeared in films such as “The Legend of the Lone Ranger” and “Earthbound.” In 1985, he was part of the star-studded cast of the ABC telefilm “Surviving,” alongside veterans like Ellen Burstyn and Paul Sorvino and rising stars like River Phoenix and Molly Ringwald.

Following his successful acting career, Marc Gilpin pursued a different path and became a self-taught software engineer. He worked for various companies, earning several software patents along the way.

Tragically, Marc’s passing marks the third loss for the Gilpin family in recent years. His sisters April and Patti passed away in 2017 and 2020, respectively.
