Story
This epic, emotionally charged adventure, which is an adaptation of the classic novel, takes place in 19th-century Eastern Europe and addresses themes of fatherhood and human nature. Following a forty-year fire that left the creature thought to be dead, Dr. Septimus Pretorius, a scientist hoping to carry on Dr. Frankenstein’s experiments, tracks down a creature born of Dr. Victor Frankenstein’s experiments.
Plot Summary
Set in 19th-century Eastern Europe, this epic adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic novel explores deep themes of fatherhood, human nature, and the pursuit of knowledge. Oscar Isaac’s character, Dr. Victor Frankenstein, feels he has moved past his troubled past after creating and then abandoning his hideous creation. But forty years after being thought to have perished in a fire, the monster (Jacob Elordi) reappears from the shadows. Tracking down the monster with the goal of carrying out Victor’s experiments is Dr. Septimus Pretorius (Christoph Waltz), a scientist captivated by Frankenstein’s creations.
Victor’s loyal and caring friend Elizabeth Lavenza (Mia Goth) is enmeshed in the midst of this scientific fixation. Pretorius sets in motion a series of events that will push the boundaries of humanity and morality as he plays on the monster’s need for acceptance and understanding.
A range of characters, such as the stern Captain Anderson (Lars Mikkelsen) and the sympathetic blind man (David Bradley), reveal the monster’s struggle with identity and belonging. “Frankenstein (2025)” tells the heartbreaking and tragic story of a creature seeking redemption and a scientist facing the repercussions of playing god, with eerie cinematography and masterful direction by Guillermo del Toro.
