In the upcoming DC Studios film “Superman: Legacy,” Fillion is slated to play a figure who transforms into an extraterrestrial creature, the movie’s studio announced on Tuesday.

The Green Lantern persona makes an appearance in “Legacy,” marking the studio’s subsequent big-screen portrayal of the extraterrestrial superhero after Ryan Reynolds, who portrayed the title role in 2011’s widely panned “Green Lantern.” Fillion has voiced the Green Lantern in at least 10 different animated films between 2011 and 2020, therefore he is fairly familiar with the character. He will be playing the role for the first time in a live-action film with “Legacy”.

Fillion portrayed T.D.K. in James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad,” a component of the DC Extended Universe that was released in 2021 and was also the director of the upcoming “Superman: Legacy.”

Nathan Fillion will now take over as the new “Green Lantern” after Ryan Reynolds.

In the upcoming DC Studios film “Superman: Legacy,” Fillion is slated to play a role that evolves into an extraterrestrial creature, the movie’s production company announced to CNN on Tuesday.

The actor, who played Master Karja in “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3,” is now included in the long list of celebrities who have appeared in both Marvel and DC comic book movies. The new casting information was initially reported by Vanity Fair.

Gunn, who last year joined Peter Safran as co-CEO of DC Studios, is in charge of “Superman: Legacy,” which is positioned as DC Studios’ entry point into the reimagining of the Superman franchise.

Reynold’s “Lantern” notoriously was a mixed-bag of reviews, with most critics panning the film altogether. Reynolds even owned up to it himself, in a sense, in a hilarious send-up spoof at the end of “Deadpool 2” in 2018

David Corenswet will play Superman in the next movie, while “The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel” actress Rachel Brosnahan has been cast as Lois Lane. On July 11, 2025, “Superman: Legacy” will have its theatrical debut
