Controversial influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have been granted release from house arrest in Romania ahead of their trial on charges of human trafficking and rape, as announced by Bucharest’s Court of Appeals on Friday.

The Tate brothers, along with two Romanian female accomplices, were placed under judicial control for a period of 60 days, starting from August 4 until October 2, as stated by the court.

These individuals were previously under house arrest during the ongoing criminal investigation for alleged abuses against seven women, a set of accusations that they have denied.

Andrew Tate, a former American-British kickboxer who gained internet fame and notoriety for his controversial views on male dominance, female submission, and wealth, has also been charged with rape. His brother, Tristan, faces charges for allegedly inciting others to violence.

Prosecutors have asserted that the Tate brothers recruited their victims by deceitfully engaging them in relationships or marriage promises.

Notably, the Tates are the most high-profile individuals to face trial for human trafficking in Romania.

Andrew Tate’s online presence and influence have been a matter of concern for human rights activists, educators, and law enforcement officials worldwide. His spread of misogynistic rape culture has been criticized, and his impact on young minds, particularly teenage boys, has raised alarms in schools and even led to discussions in the UK parliament.

The court’s decision to release the brothers comes with specific conditions, including restrictions on their movement and communication, to ensure they do not leave Bucharest and Ilfov county without court approval. Additionally, they are prohibited from possessing or using weapons and are forbidden from contacting other defendants, witnesses, victims, plaintiffs, or their families.

As the trial proceeds, the controversies surrounding Andrew Tate and his brother continue to draw attention and concern from various quarters.
