GM Recalls 62,468 Chevrolet Silverados Over Fire Risk
General Motors is recalling 62,468 Chevrolet Silverado trucks (model years 2019–2024) in the U.S. following a potential fire hazard linked to a faulty brake pressure switch assembly.
A defective brake pressure switch may leak brake fluid, leading to an electrical short and potentially causing an underhood fire—even when the truck is parked or turned off. The root cause: the supplier used an unauthorized chemical in the switch, which degrades over time and heightens fire risk.
What GM Will Do
- Owners of affected vehicles will receive official notices from GM.
- GM will inspect and replace the faulty brake pressure switch free of charge.
Scope & Risk
- About 1% of the recalled Silverados are expected to have the defect—a known but limited risk.
- The recall aligns with rules from NHTSA, the U.S. vehicle safety watchdog, aimed at preventing injury or fire.
- Affected Silverado owners should watch for a recall notice and schedule repairs promptly.
- If you experience any unusual brake performance or smell smoke near your engine, pull over and contact GM or a dealer immediately.
Although the issue affects a small portion of vehicles, the recall addresses a serious fire risk. GM aims to rectify the problem quickly and ensure Silverado owners stay safe.
