Serving as the successor to WWE 2K23, it was launched on March 8, 2024, across various platforms including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Upon its release, WWE 2K24 garnered generally positive reviews from critics who noted its iterative enhancements and refinements compared to its predecessor.
“WWE 2K24 maintains the blend of arcade and simulation wrestling gameplay seen in its predecessor. Returning to the franchise are various gimmick matches like ambulance, casket, gauntlet, and special guest referee matches. The ‘Backstage Brawl’ mode has been enhanced with a wider array of weapons and now supports four-player multiplayer. Notable additions to combat mechanics include ‘Super Finishers’, enabling players to execute high-powered moves by using all three finisher charges at once, the ability to dive onto groups of opponents, and the introduction of new weapons such as microphones and trash cans.
The ‘2K Showcase’ mode, titled ‘Showcase… of the Immortals’, focuses on pivotal matches from WrestleMania history, complete with faithful recreations of iconic venues like SoFi Stadium for WrestleMania 39. This mode integrates archival footage into gameplay segments and features narration by Cody Rhodes and Corey Graves.
‘MyGM’ mode closely resembles its predecessor from WWE 2K23 but introduces additional elements like the option to invest in permanent production upgrades, scout for talent, and engage in trade offers between brands post-events. ‘MyUniverse’ receives updates as well, including expanded run-in scenarios and support for double title matches and loser leaves town matches.
A new addition to WWE 2K24 is the ‘MyRise’ mode, offering two distinct campaigns: ‘Undisputed’ for the men’s division and ‘Unleashed’ for the women’s division. In ‘Undisputed’, players assume the role of ‘The Dark Horse’, the newly crowned Undisputed champion striving to carve their own path outside the shadow of Roman Reigns. Meanwhile, in ‘Unleashed’, players embody ‘The Captain’, an indie wrestling legend thrust into the WWE spotlight.”
