Avowed offers a first-person action RPG experience where players wield magic, melee weapons, and firearms to overcome foes. With a diverse array of spells at their disposal, players can freeze enemies, ensnare them, or unleash devastating combos by combining spells with weapons like swords. The game allows for swift switching between various setups, from dual pistols to two-handed axes. Skill trees enable players to unlock potent abilities, while weapons can be individually upgraded.
While not entirely open-world, Avowed presents expansive open zones ripe for exploration. Interactions with NPCs, akin to Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds, feature dialogue options reflecting the player’s chosen tone. Some NPCs may join the player as companions, each with distinct personalities and combat prowess, although romantic entanglements are absent. Players can venture forth with up to two companions to tackle quests within the game’s world.
