FTC Opens Second Round of Fortnite Refunds — $126 Million Up for Grabs

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is releasing $126 million in refunds to Fortnite players who were unknowingly charged for in-game items due to deceptive design practices—what regulators call "dark patterns". This follows a previous payout of $72 million in December 2024.

  • Over 969,000 players are receiving payments between June 25–26 via check or PayPal.
  • Eligible users are those charged for unwanted items between Jan 2017–Sept 2022, and parents of children who made unauthorized purchases from Jan 2017–Nov 2018.
  • Payments average around $114, though actual amounts will vary based on the number of valid claims.

How to File a Claim

  • The claims process is open through July 9, 2025.
  • Players (18+) or parents/guardians must file at ftc.gov/fortnite, using either an Epic Account ID or previous claim number.
  • Checks must be cashed within 90 days, and PayPal refunds redeemed within 30 days.
  • The FTC warns that no fee or personal account info is required to receive a refund.

This is the largest gaming-related refund ever. The $520 million settlement in 2022—one of the biggest ever by the FTC—addressed deceptive practices and children’s privacy violations tied to Fortnite purchases.
By mid-2025, nearly $198 million had already been distributed, with about $47 million still available for claims.

If you played Fortnite or have a child who did during the eligible period, take action before July 9 to claim your share of this record-setting refund. It’s easy, fast, and could mean real money back in your pocket.
