Former NFL QB Jay Cutler Sentenced in DUI Case: Jail, License Revoked, and More

Jay Cutler, the former NFL quarterback, has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor DUI charge in Tennessee. As part of a plea deal, he was sentenced on August 26, 2025, to four days in the Williamson County Jail, starting September 29. He also received a $350 fine, one year of unsupervised probation, mandatory DUI safety classes, and the revocation of his Tennessee driver’s license.

Incident and Charges

The sentencing stems from a traffic incident on October 17, 2024, in Franklin, Tennessee. Cutler rear-ended another vehicle while allegedly under the influence. Officers at the scene described signs of intoxication—slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and a strong odor of alcohol—before collecting a blood sample under warrant. Two firearms, including a loaded pistol, were found in his truck. Additionally, documents allege Cutler attempted to flee and offered the other driver $2,000 to avoid police involvement.

Under the plea agreement, the weapons-related charges were dropped in exchange for Cutler forfeiting the weapon found.

Broader Context

Jay Cutler enjoyed a 12-year NFL career with the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, and Miami Dolphins, earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2008. This incident and legal outcome add to public scrutiny following his retirement.
