Spring is finally here! And what better way to welcome in the new season in the northern hemisphere than by treating yourself to a brand new game?
Ok, so gaming wouldn’t ordinarily be associated with springtime, but this is the season when publishing companies start to push the boat out in terms of game quality. The gaming industry has had a pretty phenomenal couple of years so design studios are naturally going to continue to build on that momentum this season.
So, without further ado, here are six games you can enjoy on PC, console and mobile.
PC Gaming
Ideal for when the April (and May and June) showers hit, Dune: Spice Wars has been on our radar since it was announced at the 2021 Game Awards. Shiro Games’ sandbox-style RTS game looks set to be pretty captivating.
Featuring some classic 4X elements, the action in Spice Wars takes place on the desert planet Arrakis. Although an absolute must for any fans of Frank Herbert’s Dune universe, in-depth knowledge of the novels is not required to get maximum enjoyment from the game.
iGaming
As one of the most lucrative and prolific gaming sectors, there’s plenty of choice when it comes to iGaming in spring 2022. In fact, several of the best releases for the genre this season are actually available to play as free online games wherever you are. On the slots front, there’s plenty to get your teeth stuck into with Slotomania, while Playtika’s House of Fun brings in some pretty cool social elements to the digital casino. Console Gaming
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is already dominating console charts. It feels like we’ve been waiting an age for this one to hit the Xbox and PlayStation, but it’s finally here despite all those devastating delays.
Jam-packed with adventure, the game features all nine of the core Star Wars movies in trademark Traveler’s Tales style. The only difficult bit is deciding which of the trilogies to start with.
Nintendo Switch
Gaming on Nintendo Switch still remains a favourite amongst players of all ages and demographics and, this spring, there’s a new release featuring everyone’s favourite Italian plumber.
Mario Strikers: Battle League Football is the latest instalment in the Mario Strikers series. Known for their unique take on football gaming, the titles in this series are adored by footie fans and Mario Bros lovers alike and we expect Battle League to be no exception.
Following the five-a-side format, the aim of the game is to score the most goals while cooperating with your teammates. There are even local and online multiplayer options.
Mobile Gaming
Back in 2015, iOS gamers were captivated by an indie game that promised to deliver an endless snowboarding odyssey. Here, in 2022, it’s to be captivated all over again with the remastered edition of Alto’s Adventure.
This remastered version also comes with an added bonus for Apple Arcade players in the form of a brand new playable character. There are even fresh new goals to hit, as well as added landscapes and trails to explore.
For Android gamers, we’re going with Star Discord as the best new game of the season. A mash-up of Minecraft and StarCraft, this mobile title ticks all the boxes as far as strategy games with a hint of nostalgia go.
It features a cracking multiplayer option too and, being a real-time strategy game, is quite the rarity on Android.
