Thank you for taking time to speak with us today. Congratulations on your wonderful achievements to date. We recently read that you were drawn into acting after you watched a behind the scenes video of Benedict Cumberbatch playing Smaug, in ‘Lord of the Rings.’ Can you explain how he inspired you?
Benedict was so fearless and only his world that he saw existed. I was able to imagine everything around him, and it was so detailed, everything. Every time I watch this video I am in awe.
What kind of projects are you drawn to?
I like simplicity and rawness. I want to tell life stories and that people really can connect and relate to the story. But also telling stories to raise awareness of certain topics are important. I want to tell life stories and that people really can connect and relate to the story. Of course, you always like a challenge as an actor but for me it is more important what the story is telling, whatever I can contribute as my character I will do so.
What genre do you lean towards?
Real life drama I would say. I enjoy movies like ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,’ because it is real life, no “Hollywood glimmer” added to it. But also, thrillers are a genre that I enjoy exploring, and actually as an actress, horror movies I find awesome to play.
When you receive an audition, how do you break down the script?
Somehow when I receive a script, I see the scene in front of my eyes. I get to know the TV channel, film studio or streaming network of which genre the script is. Especially, when it is for a series. I try to watch a couple of episodes to get the feel of the show. Then I look at the character break down and I get to the script. For me, it is more important to understand who the character is first. Once I have understood the character, I figure out the needs and wants in the scene.
Do you do anything special to get into character? Is there a specific process?
Yes, I do but it’s different each time and is based on what I feel my body needs on that specific day. But honestly, I am still figuring out the right warm up for me.
Do you have a “go to” audition outfit?
No not at all, I have a big closet so each time it’s different.
How do you overcome performance nerves?
Recently I have had the most performance nerves when my partner sees me doing a self-tape or when I am waiting for feedback from my manager. I have gotten so used to self-tapes and I always read with a good actor friend of mine, so he knows me. On set I am in work mode, and I function. Just take a deep breath, it is not as important as your brain thinks it is. You will be fine.
If you could choose one role to play, past or future, what would it be?
Catherine from A View from the Bridge either in theater or if they make a new adaption. RAYA – I always wanted to be a Disney princess, and RAYA is the first princess that is the same race as me. I would also love to play a real-life character that lived, like a biography, but I am still seeking those stories that are similar looking similar to me.
What actors do you look up to?
I look up to all actors who manage to stay in this business over several years and keep working on projects they truly want to do. Especially those actors like Eddie Redmayne, Hugh Jackman or Amy Adams who jump between Broadway or London’s West End and Hollywood.
Best or most memorable showbiz moment so far?
I think when you just have a blast on set, those are the best moments. Looking back also the brands I was able to work for.
Tell us something people would be surprised to know about you?
I used to play soccer until I was 18. I loved sports back in my school days and I would be the girl sweating and running around like crazy when it came to games with balls. I was a tomboy and probably still am when it comes to competitive sports.
What is one motto you live by?
If you are not making someone else’s life better, then you are wasting your time.
